First Day Vocals at The Grove

'Sandbox Theory' Frontmen Jay and Steve (seen in this picture with jay squashing Steves head) together with Guitarist Lenny reported for vocal duty with Producer Andy Sorenson at the Grove Studios yesterday.

First song off the line was the 'new version' of Cellphone City with Steve on lead vocals and after a relaxing session in the vocal booth Steve, Andy, and the guys were more than happy with the results, smile were beaming from ear to ear as they listened to the fist playback.

The "The Mix Nija" Andy set about
making it all sound even better, so the guys took the opportunity to wander about the beautiful 25 Acre grounds intimidating the local animals

Then it was back into the vocal booth again and this time it was Jays turn with 'No Crime' - as before, this is a totally new version of the song and the grins were still in place when we heard the first playbacks.

Off for a quick lunch at the local boozer as we all tucked into Burgers Chips n' Beer
(Seen working hard in this picture is Axe Man Lenny)

but half an hour later we were all back in the Studio again...Andy is a hard taskmaster and a slave driver :)

Finally later that afternoon and we tracked the first vocals for the Bands theme song "Sandbox" once again this is a dramatically revised version of the original demos that have been heard and we were very excited to hear the first playback.

So all in all day one of first vocals was a resounding success and we had a ball working with Andy.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Sandbox have modified the band name - The band will now be known as:
SANDBOX THEORY

The reason for this is that there is already another band in
the UK called 'Sandbox' who have a following in England and are releasing their songs on i
Tunes - It seemed to us to be a fruitless thing to continue with the original name as it was.

But Sandbox was still very relevant to our songs and 'the epic story being told'

So....

After many weeks of agonizing we (well it was actually Steves wife Christine) came up with the idea of adding "Theory" to the name - we all think it works even better than the original and Steve has worked up a nice logo incorporating the new logo which will be unveiled very soon when the new CD is released.

Mix Ninja Andy Breaths Even More Fire into Sandbox Songs

Recording progress is going well

with new Producer and Mix Ninja 'Andy

Sorenson' at the Grove Studios.

Jay and Steve went along yesterday to audition the first three 'guide' tracks that make up the start of the new CD planned for release at the end of this year.

The tracks were given a BIG thumbs up by Steve and Jay and we all think that you will love the way the songs are turning out :)

Andy will be working on the remaining tracks this week and then the band expect to be going in to record vocals and guitars.

We are all working on this project in a radically different way from the conventional as the nature of the music dictates it - it is both rewarding and frustrating for us at the moment as we cannot do much other than wait until Andy has finished with his part - but it will be well worth the wait :)

The Grove Studios is an amazing place and has been responsible for many great artist recordings including:

- Eskimo Joe
- The Butterfly Effect
- The Scare
- Jimmy Barnes
- Operator Please
- Angus & Julia Stone
- Angelasdish
- Silverchair
- Modern Joy
- United
- Kate Miller Heidke
- Guy Sebastion
- 67 Special
- Darlene Zschech
- Kisschasy
- Kasey Chambers
- Shannon Noll
- Hillsong
- Something For Kate
- Brooke Fraser
- Grinspoon
- Missy Higgins
- Amymeredith

To name but a few...

We plan to add the Name Sandbox Theory to the list very soon :)

OLLY CLAIMS "The Sandbox Sex God" TITLE?

Well heres the living proof that OLLY is laying claim to the Sandbox1 Sex God title previously owned by the great Andy James of Cellphone City fame.

This photo of him was taken at a Sydney 'Franklins Grocery Superstore' where he threw 'swooning' Checkout Chick (Kylie Blatter) across his knee in a classic Sandbox 'hip swiveling' maneuver which was fortunately caught by our roaming Sandbox1 Blog photographer (Arnie Smarm).

Interviewed later Olly smiled raising one eyebrow in James Bond style and commented "Weeell.. when you got it, flaunt it, eh"

Crikey I reckon our Olly can give Andy James a run for his money...

"Cor Blimey"... said Maurine.. "He's one flamin' hot kisser,
but I wish he'd took the cigarette n' chewie gum out of his gob first"

Watch out girls he may be around your way next :)

Everything Starts in the NEW BOX

Currently we are building a new Sandbox 'Audio PC' as the existing Sandbox one - which is now 4 years old - and seriously out of date... (I mean like it's about 12 years in PC time :)

We have now sourced all the parts 'New Everything' and will start to assemble the PC over the next few weeks. We cannot just go out and buy one off the shelf as it has to be compatible with the three Universal Audio DSP Sound Processors that we have invested in and are onboard the old machine. But we have some three mighty 1 Gig Drives to install, and 3.5 Gig of Ram so this beast should fly once Windows has been installed a 'tamed'.

Jay and Steve are also heading to The Grove Studios on Friday 18th to 'Audition' the tracks that Producer Andy Sorenson has been working on for the last two weeks. We are so pumped up to hear them as we know that if they are anything like the 'Sandbox' track we have already heard we will be in for an ear candy treat.

We think the first tracks to be recorded will be with Dave Pardy (Drums) and the Bass (Rex Bails) - anyhow more of that asap.

Jay and I are currently writing new songs (to try to keep ourselves from going mad waiting)
and plan to include these new songs on the next Sandbox Project - Watch this space...

RECORDING BEGINS :)

SANDBOX1 have officially begun the process of recording.

A meeting took place this week to seal the recording deal with Producer Andy Sorenson and The Grove Studios.

Planning commenced two days ago with a pre-production meeting to decide which songs we will record, this wasn't easy to do as nobody wanted to throw out any of the songs LOL
But we are now decided and ready to roll.

Axe Nerd Says..."The Verdict is in!"

Sandbox lead guitarist Ian Smith says the new "Pod" doesn't cut it for him.

Ian is a fully certifiable Axe Nerd owning no less than 5 vintage Fender Strats and a whole collection of Vintage Valve Amps, Cabs, and veteran Stomp Boxes. Now that is a NERD!

He says that the Pod just doesn't quite convince him and doesn't really stack up to his Analog Gear. Ian says he will use it on some of the Sandbox recordings to get some cool quirky sounds, but says that it's "Like Virtual Women on the web"... he prefers the real thing :)

OK Ian... that's gonna upset the Line Pod people but ya gotta tell it like it is.

Looking forward to seeing Ian perform in the studio cooking some licks with banks and banks of vintage amps.

Not long to go now.

New Gadget - New Song 'SEX FOR FREE'

Spent Sunday afternoon drooling over latest piece of sci-fi guitar technology with Sandbox1 Axeman Ian Smith.

WELL! it's not that new to honest, it came out a year or so ago.

But it's still Bleeding Edge stuff.

The following information is for the guitar anoracks:

The first page of the manual reads...
POD X3 Live represents the true evolution of the now-classic POD xt Live guitar amp modeler, with an expanded array of 78 guitar amps, from high-wattage heavyweights to boutique beauties and vintage treasures.
24 guitar cabs, 98 stompbox and studio effects, 28 bass amps, 22 bass cabs and six vocal preamps... I wont continue at the risk of alienating any readers.

So Ian fires this sucker up, plugs in his vintage Strat and WOW! instant rock legend sounds, perfect for recording.

We spent a great afternoon auditioning the sounds for new Sandbox1 song 'Sex for Free' and man this baby kicks arse:)

Set your clocks to "olly time"

It's twenty to three Saturday afternoon and we are waiting for Olly - Hmmm I reccon we need to write a song about this - Yea

"Waiting fer Olly"

Were waiting for Olly
and we're hangin' loose
just waiting fer Olly
here comes an excuse
a volcano erupted
he was hit by a bus
drowned in a Tsunami
hey what's all the fuss?

We're waitin fer Olly
just waitin fer Olly...
:)

Mind you we are used to it now - Olly is the most timetable challenged member of Sandbox1 and we have all kinda got used to him now so when he says he'll be there at 1.00 P.M. we automatically adjust and add on three hours (Olly Time) LOL
anyhow...
Today is the start of the weekend rehearsals sessions and the Sandbox1 dudes have to learn their parts in readiness for the forthcoming recording sessions. Everyone is pumped up and raring to go to the studio but we need to be well rehearsed as a lot of money is going into the production thanks to a few special fans who are putting their money where their mouths are and financing our first release.

Plan to have another meeting with Andy Sorenson next week to discuss the recording budget (Gulp!) and strategy.

More soon :)
